Thanks for all the wishes everybody.
Sadly my grandmother passed away peacefully last Wednesday evening with her three daughters and my sister by her side. The rest of the close relatives were at her side just minutes before that.
My Grandfather couldn't stay until the end so I drove him home to an empty house as he began to make the many phone calls that have flooded the past few days. Just as he was on the phone to a neighbour my mobile phone rang, it was my sister letting me know that it was all over. She had finally gone after 10 minutes of the machines and tubes being turned off. There was no pain, she just fell asleep.
The end of last week and much of the weekend has been spent at their house making arrangements and keeping him company. The coming months will be some of the hardest for him, and as he was a good 9 years older, we need to stay close by and help him as much as we can. The plan was to move them into a care based living environment in the near future and even before she passed she was looking into the arrangements as we found all the documentation laid out after she had been following it up.
The funeral is Wednesday. We have no idea how many people are coming, but are prepared for a decent turnout. I chose not to speak or place a personal message in the newspaper. My grief is inside, I prefer not to show it in the way that most people do. I confess to breaking down with my arms around my mother in tears beside hospital bed. My moment of weakness, but I need to be strong for everyone else. I know she would have wanted it.
On that note I will leave you all for another indeterminable period. Never fear I will return, and am always a message away.
